Goodbye Chilly and Hello Sunny New York City!

Starmark and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau (GFL) teamed up once again with a campaign that turned up the heat in NYC today, and they’ll do it again in London on January 22 and wrap up in Chicago on February 6. Designed to warm up the frozen north and drive visitation to Fort Lauderdale, the “Goodbye Chilly. Hello Sunny” special events will transform these cities into a tropical paradise for the day complete with palm trees, beach sand and Florida sunshine! Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitor’s Bureau Launch at Rock Plaza

For one day, Rockefeller Center will be rebranded the Sunny Plaza with a declaration of “Sunshine Day” as Greater Fort Lauderdale bathes Rock Center in its own brand of sun and warmth for winter weary New York with a takeover of Rockefeller Center ice skating rink and the Sea Grill Restaurant.

On January 16, Rockefeller’s ice skating rink with be transformed into a tropical paradise, offering 6 hours of free skating, and decked out with palm trees, lifeguards, yellow-striped beach umbrellas, colorful bathing suits encased in ice blocks, and bikini-clad ice skaters.
Costumed street teams will be deployed on Fifth Avenue and 49th and 50th streets to dispense “warm hugs” and promo cards to win trips to Greater Fort Lauderdale and to encourage visitors to join the free ice skating party.  The destination’s iconic Beach Mobile – a colorful beach on wheels – will cruise the Rockefeller Center area with stops for photo ops with beach models.
The Sea Grill with host a private VIP luncheon (12 noon – 2 pm) for the media, travel agents, meeting planners, industry partners and CVB and GFL hospitality industry representatives.   The menu will feature “Floribbean” cuisine, and a Hello Sunny ice luge (with bikini) will dispense  Laudertinis.   Tropical florals will decorate the tables and lunch attendees will be able to join the skaters via direct access from the restaurant.
Earlier in the day, large ice blocks with images of NBC’s Today Show’s on-air personalities (Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Morales) will be staged outside the Today Show studio enticing the anchors (and others) to pose with their Ice “image.”   Warm Your Buns benches and the Beach Mobile, with bikinied models tossing beach balls, will be positioned nearby within camera view.   The anchors will announce the free skating compliments of GFLCVB at the Rock Center Sunny Plaza.
